Galerie Fons Welters proudly presents a new solo exhibition by the young German painter Sven Kroner. It is Kroner’s third solo presentation at the gallery. In the past few years, his work has been shown at various international exhibitions, among others in the Heidelberger Kunstverein (D), Kunsthaus Garus (CH) and Galerie Anne de Villepoix (Paris).
Along with the exhibition his new monography Human Highway will be presented – a full colour catalogue with contributions by Nadia Schneider and Xander Karskens.
In Fog Kroner shows a new series of paintings in which landscapes covered in patches of fog take a central place. The theme of (mountain) landscapes is a recurring one in Kroner´s oeuvre – a reference to the surroundings of his native region in the south of Germany. Stylistic his paintings have become more refined: his swift, virtuoso brushstrokes are still there, but have been elaborated to render more precise and detailed results compared to his earlier works.
As usual, people play an important role in the large painted representations, against the background of a landscape that is emphatically used for leisure activities. Kroner’s figures wander around seemingly at ease, but at the same time the painter creates a slightly ominous undertone by allowing the fog to slowly take control over the landscape. Steep sloping perspectives drag your sense of reality down into hazy depths – comic but also slightly confusing because you seem to be losing the grip on your own perception.

A new catalog (‘Human Highway’) will accompany the exhibition.
